God chose for his parents the ones that would best care for him.
He wants the same for every child for which we have the awesome power to procreate. Our Lord's mission, which is now His church's mission, is to bring humanity back to the perfection it was created for. He began this mission on earth by being born into a human family. If we have any question as to how to be a wife, mother, father or husband, we need only to look to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. A child's parents are his or her primary educators. For a boy, his mother is his primary educator until the age of 12. At that point, his father becomes his primary educator. That is told in Luke 2. It is also illustrated in the painting above, where we see St. Joseph teaching Jesus carpentry. Our Most Blessed Mother Mary is sitting quietly and looks a bit tired after all the years she was Jesus' primary educator. She most likely worked with him on academic subjects, especially the Word of God. Why would an all-knowing God humble himself to be educated by two human beings He created? Perhaps it was to teach us as parents how we are to raise and educate our own children. |
